    Terry Phillips
Terry Phillips has worked in ELT for more than 40 years as a teacher, teacher trainer, manager, language school owner, author and ELT consultant. As a consultant, he has worked in more than 25 countries in all parts of the world, advising state and private language institutions on all aspects of school management. As an author, he has been a freelance writer with his wife Anna for the last 20 years, producing more than 160 published books in ELT, working for all the major publishers, and especially for Garnet Education, for which company Terry and Anna produced many works for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP), including the multi-level EAP course, Progressive Skills in English. His books are taught in a large number of universities and language centres in the UK and around the world, and the original Skills in English was highly commended in The Duke of Edinburgh’s English Speaking Union (ESU) Award for 2004, and the English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) series won the ESU award in 2009. When the newly formed Innova was asked to source graded readers for young learners, Terry, as Business Development Director, realised that there was a gap in the market. He discovered that the vast majority of readers currently available do not actually teach reading in a structured way. The Innova graded readers for young learners were the result of careful research, years of expertise in teaching and teacher training, and being a father of two. He was assisted in his research by his elder daughter, a devoted primary teacher who loves to discuss her observations and insights into child development and education. He holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Reading, UK, a Specialist Certificate in Teaching English and Drama from the University of Exeter and a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (now DELTA) from the Royal Society of Arts, London.
About Publisher
  • Innova Press
Innova Press is a brand-new ELT publisher, launched in late 2017 with a mission to create true innovation in language education. Innova creates readers, test preparation materials and other titles based on the latest research into language education, with a specific focus on actual learner needs. Our first series of graded readers for young learners was published in May 2018. Accompanying these readers on this website are free downloadable audio and comprehensive notes to help parents use the readers at home, and teachers to use them in class or online. Later in 2018 and in 2019, Innova will publish a range of practice and preparation tests for many of the most popular English language exams, including IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL and CEQB. In 2019, Innova will begin to publish all its titles in fully interactive versions, suitable for use on all electronic devices, including mobiles, tablets and interactive whiteboards, as well as in print form.
